Following the recent general elections, certain irresponsible parties / netizens have taken to spreading more lies about Gardenia on Facebook and Internet. This time, they are saying that the price of Gardenia bread in Peninsular Malaysia has increased. They even have a photo of the ‘kwik lok’ tag showing the prices (refer above). THIS IS A BLATANT LIE. The ‘kwik lok’ is from a different Gardenia product, sliced Sandwich Bun (Burger bun).
This Facebook message is being spread by unscrupulous parties who may have a benefactor that is not able to compete honestly in an open market.
There has been no increase in the retail price of Gardenia bread in Peninsular Malaysia.
We would very much appreciate if you could share the truth with your family and friends.
Thank you.
Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd has recently received several enquiries about the possible price increase of Gardenia bread in Sabah. To clarify, Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd [GBKL] and Gardenia Sabah are two completely different companies, and they are not related. GBKL operates only in Peninsular Malaysia and supplies to this market only. Gardenia Sabah covers that market specifically. The two companies have totally different management, policies, and operational systems.
GBKL would like to assure consumers in Peninsular Malaysia that the price for Gardenia loaves and other products in Peninsula Malaysia remains unchanged. Prices for Gardenia loaves are listed on ‘kwik lok’ tags and printed on the packaging for other snack items. These prices are fixed. Should you come across any retailers that have increased the price of any Gardenia product, kindly contact Ms.Lavinia Anthony/ Ms.Mok Siew Lin at 03-5542 3228 immediately, so that the necessary action can be taken.

Translation: Flour supply contracts signed with the FFM Federal Flour Mills has been canceled by UMNO!
The Truth: Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd [GBKL] has been a friend to FFM since the very beginning. The working relationship between a flour mill and a bakery is like a marriage. All our trade secrets such as ingredients specification and recipes must be intimately shared. With the coming of a new competitor back in 1998, we requested FFM to stay faithful to Gardenia because from our experience, we know our secrets can be leaked out to the new bakery. FFM have made their choice to work with the new bakery and hence, we have to make our choice. We chose to buy flour from the TEH family in Perak, i.e. Malayan Flour Mill Berhad.
BERNAS became one of the major shareholders of GBKL in 2001 because of Industrial Coordination Act 1975. However, they have never interfered with our operation since day one.
So the spins that were created to boycott GBKL are not only wrong, but very dangerous and irresponsible to play with communities’ feeling. We urge Malaysian to come back to their senses and not be exploited by lies.
The Truth: Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd [GBKL] and Gardenia Sabah are two different companies and they are not related. These two companies have totally different policies, management and operational systems.
All products manufactured by GBKL are certified halal by JAKIM. It’s internal halal committee, formed in 1994, continuously monitors and scrutinizes every aspect of halal issues. The committee is given full authority pertaining to halal and syariah matters.
The Truth: Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of a listed food group, QAF Ltd, which also operates Gardenia bakeries in both Singapore and the Philippines.
AND
Gardenia Bakeries (KL) Sdn Bhd is also an associate company of Padiberas National, BERNAS.
The Truth: This was lifted from an article in The Telegraph, United Kingdom (PDF) on 29 September 2010 of a British bread. It is now posted in Facebook (PDF) for obvious reason of mischief. Please see through the viciousness of these lies.
